How to apply CAA online




The Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) 2019 was declared and passed in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha in the year 2019 11 December however which is enforced in the country India 4 years later in 2024 ahead of the Lok Sabha election. The opposition attacked the ruling party BJP for implementing CAA ahead of the Lokshabha election , and also made allegations that CAA can take over the citizenship of Indian Muslims.


What Is CAA?

The central government or the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) will grant citizenship to people belonging to the religious community such as Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, Parsi, Jain and Christian in short other than Muslim community from Bangladesh, Pakistan and Afghanistan who came to India on or before 31st March before 31st December 2024 flee from religious persecution.



How it would be helpful?

In the provision of the 1955 Citizenship Act which prohibits illegal immigrants in India from obtaining Indian citizenship. Now the new CAA will allow religious immigrants and prosecuted minorities from Afghanistan, Bangladesh or Pakistan who arrived in India on December 31st 2014 or before to obtain Indian Citizenship, this also reduces the time of getting citizenship from 11 years to 5 years.



Will it take the citizenship of Muslims?


The law is for giving citizenship to the non-muslim community belonging to Bangladesh, Pakistan and Afghanistan. This law is not for taking anyone's citizenship.


Eligibility Criteria

An individual of Indian Origin seeking registration as a citizen of India.

An individual married to a citizen of India seeking registration as a citizen of India.

An individual whose parents are registered as citizens of India seeking registration as a citizen of India.

An individual who is registered as an Overseas Citizen of India seeking registration as a citizen of India.



Documents Required


The applicant for CAA 2019 can submit any 9 documents below shared.

1) one valid or expired passport ID card and Lance records of the previous country,

2) Visa and immigration Stamp on arrival in India,

3) certificate issued by an elected member of any rural or urban body or a revenue officer,

4) eligibility certificate issued by a locally reputed community institution confirming that he or she belongs to India either Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, Percy or Christian community,

5)any government-issued licence or certificate or permit in India including a driving licence Aadhar Card ration card issued in India issued by the government,

6) Court to the applicant with an official stamp,

7) Birth certificate of the applicant issued in India,

8) Land or Tennesse record

9) Registered rental agreement in India

10) Insurance document bearing the date of the policy in India,

11) The School leaving certificate of the applicant issued in India,

12) Academic certificate issued by any school, college, board or university or any government institution,

13) Trade license issued by municipality or Panchayet,

14) The Marriage certificate of the applicant issued in India,

15) An affidavit verifying the correctness of the statements made in the application along with an affidavit from an Indian citizen testify the character of the applicant,

16) A declaration from the applicant that they have the knowledge of one of the languages as specified in the 8 schedules to the constitution,



Which forms required


1) Form IIA -This form should be fill-up to furnish with their details such as birth, place of birth and parent and spouse as details of their residency in India

2) Form IIIA- marriage certificate the applicant also has to give the details of their parent's citizenship and the place of birth,

3) Form IVA - application for a minor child's personal details such as full name, sex and country of birth the applicant will be given there

4) Form VA -Individuals whose parents registered as citizens of India,

5)Forn VIA-Any person whose parents were a citizens of Independent India,

6) Form VIIA-Individual registered as overseas Citizen,

7)Forn VIIIA- This form needs to submit with personal details and information required for the neutarlization of the process.



How to Apply CAA


Click on this link https://indiancitizenshiponline.nic.in/ then click to submit application for "Indian Citizenship Under CAA 2019" option enter your initial details like mobile number and email ID once the login is been done click on the Fresh Application and submit all the necessary documents.


After submitting documents for scrutiny the applicant has to sub the form will be scrutinized by the District Level Committee (DLC) after the scrutiny the DLC team will contact the applicant over email, call or SMS where the applicant needs to visit the district level committee office with all the original document for verification
